My friend Corinne attended, under some duress, her boss Jared's fiftieth birthday party recently. She met the boss's (youngish, third) wife Arabella and took the opportunity to chat with her:

C: "I see your picture on Jared's desk, and I gotta say I don't know how you put up with him. I've got a Jared of my own at home, and I'm trying to leave him. But apartments are so expensive."

Arabella clasps my friend's hand.

A: "I know! They are expensive. I don't know how I'm gonna get out of this marriage."

She leans in:

A: "Roomies?"

Yup. I changed the names, but the conversation is accurate, including the fact that my friend's boss and her boyfriend share a first name.
